The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
