Fall Classic Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extended matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined over 50 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball reported this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest drew over 27 million audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-match series averaged 15.71M audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete US viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09M viewers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and the network’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen different languages.
